The origins of Central Valley Wicca, or CVW, can be traced to an unidentified elder who moved to the California Central Valley in the early 1960s. It is known that she had ties to England and had probably resided there before relocating to Northern California.
It is a common belief that CVW is early offshoot of the Gardnerian Tradition. With some claiming that they share an ancestor with the New Forest Coven. What is however more likely is that CVW is just a distinct branch of Gardnerian and British Traditional Wicca that was introduced to the United States from Britain during the 1960s and has ultimately developed it’s own idiosyncrasies and identity, while still retaining a practice comparable to the Gardnerian tradition.
CVW it’s self has now developed it’s own branches including but not limited to: Silver Crescent, Kingstone, Daoine Coire, Assembly of Wicca, and Majestic.
